Beloved Books: The Dream House

Clementine Studio is so excited to have a story time and creative projects at Barnes and Noble! We thought we'd share some of our favorite books here, too.

The Dream House  by Pirkko Vainio is one of our most requested stories. It is about a man named Lucas who has dreamed of building a house of his very own. He finally saves enough money to buy a small island and packs up his few belongings and his cat and happily leaves his apartment behind. First he builds a kitchen out of stones, then a bedroom out of wood on top. He is having so much fun that he doesn't want to stop building and by the end of the summer his house has become a tall tower. One night the wild winds blow and changes Lucas' home in an unexpected way. With the help of some children the home becomes a magical house-tower-bridge and Lucas has never been happier!

We love reading this book at Clementine Studio because it embraces the concept of 'happy accidents'- something we talk a lot about with art. It is also a great story about following dreams. If you'd like to stop by and read it we'd love to see you!

And be sure to come and visit us at Barnes and Noble on Pearl Street for more great stories! We will be there October 1st at 9:30 am for story time and an art project.

Clementine Studio Presents: Artist Ideas! Featuring Ava

Materials:
Old cd’s ... paint or markers
Glitter (if using paint ‘cause it will stick!)
Saran wrap ... feathers ... string
Tape ...
what kind do you recommend ? ... regular tape, like from the round.

Process
First you paint or color cd with markers- sprinkle on glitter if using paint. Then wrap up in saran wrap and then you tape back
(to anchor on). Add a feather
by poking through center (of cd) and tape down in back. You can also put feathers all around by taping ends on to back which looks good too! Make a little loop with tape along the back (edge) and then you tie string from under tape and put another piece of tape on top (to secure).
Make a little loop knot so there is a ring (to hang from) and then cut off extra and you have a mobile!
